Wittenberg

A year ago today David and I fell in love with the city of Wittenberg.

The town square with Luther's statue; Melancthon's statue is on this side but not in the picture.

Walking down the street with the Schloskirche in view.

Touring the Stadtkirche St. Marien where Luther preached and Cranach's altarpiece can be viewed.
Right next door is the Old Latin School which is now owned by the LCMS and the SELK and is being renovated for use as an International Lutheran Welcome Center.

Inside the Castle Church, it was amazing to think I'm where Luther once walked, and where he is now buried under the pulpit.

Yes Wittenberg was our favorite city. We were half kidding and half serious when we stopped and looked at the houses for sale. Wouldn't it be neat to own a home in Wittenberg, we thought? That thought is still appealing to me.

Ein Feste Burg

Ahh yes, A mighty fortress is our God. He was for Luther and He is for me and all believers still today and I heartily sing:
Take they our life, goods, fame, child, and wife,
Though these all be gone, they yet have nothing won.
The kingdom ours reamaineth.

Rick and I loved Germany!
Wittenburg and Coberg were the only Luther sites we got to visit.
How very cool to be there and STAND where he STOOD and could do no other!
I am ready to go back.
Wunderbar!

We stayed with the Seventh Day Adventists when we were in Wittenberg. Their church has a B&B ministry! That's thinking outside of the box! Though our trip was a number of years ago, I would recommend their accommodations for your next visit. Very clean and comfortable and CHEAP (or at least it was with with dollar/ d. mark conversion--maybe not with the Euro).

We were so young and naive that we only planned 1 night in Wittenberg. I too look forward to the time when we will be able to return. There was so much we didn't see.

I was in Worms not Wittenberg.
Got confused.
Good thing Rick went with me so he could remember for me!

I LOVED Whittenberg. We were there when the wall was still up. I hear it is a different climate now. I am sure that is true. I will NEVER forget singing a Luther hymn at his grave. I was so moving. (Sang a Bach piece at his grave too!)

There was also a wedding the day we were there. It was across the plaza from the castle church. All these children were waiting outside for the couple. They threw money at them when they came out and the kids ran all over to get it. It was tin money, so not a sole was hurt. I bet they don't have those tin coins anymore. I long to go to Germany with Rich. He would have such insight for me! Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Did you go to Rothenburg when you were there? It is in the western part of Germany. I loved it there. It might have had something to do with meat other than smoked fish with eyes still in them! LOL!
