How I love Lands' End

It is that time of year again, time to bring out the fall clothes and see what fits and doesn't. This is particularly hard with children who grow and have outgrown all hand-me downs. Such is the case with our Hannah.

Now I don't really think of myself as a prude, but I must lean that way since I can't find jeans that are decent for an almost 13 year old girl to wear. We started out by going to the mall. We looked at Sears, then Herbergers, then Maurices. Every single place had low-rise, flare-cut jeans, and no straight-leg, normal-rise jeans. Some of the zippers were barely 3 inches long! Plus there were no normal shirts, most had some sort of writing or design I didn't like or think appropriate. Poor Hannah just said, "I hate shopping" and was almost in tears. Dad suggested we go home and check out Lands' End.

I was afraid that Hannah would be too big for girls size 16 in Lands' End and not big enough for the smallest misses. but when we arrived home from the mall I sat down at the computer, clicked on the girl's tab and was simply delighted by what I found. Normal, decent clothes at a reasonable price. I checked what the measurements are for a size 16 girl and then we measured Hannah. The only problem? She is taller than what is listed, but I called the number and the very helpful, courteous representative checked what the inseam length on the jeans are and they would be plenty long. Woo Hoo!

So Hannah sat down next to me and away we shopped in the comfort of our own home, clicking away on jeans, sweat pants (actual normal sweat pants!), shirts, beautiful sweaters, pajamas, and a darling skort. We picked basics that would make several different outfits.

When the box came in the mail, it was like Christmas and she, David, and I were simply delighted how well-made every item is, that it fits well, and she looks like a lovely young lady.

Go ahead, check out Lands' End for your children - girls and boys both! I simply can't recommend them to you enough. They have a great website, wonderful customer service, quick delivery on orders, great return policy, and the quality of their clothing will last through multiple children. I had forgotten how much I loved Lands' End, but this week I remembered once again why I used to only shop there and never went to the store.

You can be certain, that from now on Lands' End, either by looking at a catalog or on-line, will be the first place I shop.

I've been buying dresses from Lands End for Maggie since she was two. They have nice, conservative, pretty, longish knit dresses that take a lot of abuse and don't make her look like a little mini-hottie and don't maker her look Amish, either. To make them last longer, I always buy a size above what she is, and they manage to last throughout the whole half a year, despite growth spurts.

Oh, and bigger Sears stores often have a fair selection of Lands End clothes. I know ours devotes a whole section of the store as a Lands End store - mens, womens, kids, shoes.

Yes RPW, I, too, have bought those wonderful knit dresses for the girls for years; and I have bought a lot of other things from them. But for whatever reason (most likely me thinking it cost too much money and trying to save a penny) I had forgotten how nice all their clothes are. Plus, it isn't that expensive, especially considering they will last through the next two girls and be able to be passed on after that. This whole experience once again reminded me that I should look there *first* and supplement if need be somewhere else.

Yes, I knew Sears carries some Lands' End, which is why I went there in the first place. But, this particular Sears doesn't carry much at all for girls, and some Misses. However, if I would venture to the cities and the big MOA that Sears has a huge selection, plus down the road is a wonderful Lands' End outlet.

I've been a Lands' End supporter for years, but simply had gotten away from buying from them. Well, never again, they simply have quality clothes that look great.

Lydia needed school uniform items that would hold up for three years and so we ordered from Land's End. Nice quality, all of it.
And the great joy is that she can wear a girl's 14 top and I can wear a girls XL sweater- so clearance items are often an extra great deal.

I switched from Land's End to L.L.Bean when that Prairie Home Companion guy, who is supported by Land's End, while making a speech at the opening of a hospital wing (which I believe was named after some big-wig at Land's End), made a statement to the effect that, since Christians are "not of this world", perhaps we should not be permitted to vote. Wow, what a run-on sentence! Anyway, my eldest daughter needs plus-size, so I go to the Gap for her. She did well with Talbot's Kids clothes, but Talbot's is closing their Kids Department.

We've had really good luck with the jeans at the feed stores and western wear places. They have the low cut horrible stuff but also really decent inexpensive jeans that last. I guess they figure you wouldn't want to ride a horse with tight jeans that are flimsy :)

Barb, I think you're talking about Garrison Keillor. I used to enjoy his radio show but can't stand to listen to him anymore because of his left wing Bush-hating politics.

I do like Land's End, although I usually only buy their stuff second-hand on Ebay! This year I think I'm going to try doing some shopping at Bass Pro, which recently opened a store in our town! I would put their stuff in the same style category as Land's End and L. L. Bean.
