What's for Lunch?

I hate days like today. David is at a circuit meeting so he won't be here for lunch, which means I always find myself not having a clue what to fix for lunch. I don't really want to cook, but there is no bread (still rising), there are no leftovers (had that for supper last night), I feel guilty eating the corn dogs (David likes them too, and if we eat them now, there won't be enough for another meal). Kids don't seem to think that fasting is the way to go. I suppose I'll simply make a big pot of mac-n-cheese and we'll finish up the fresh fruit (grocery shopping day is tomorrow).

This happens every time David isn't here for a meal. If he didn't come home every day for lunch, my poor kids would most likely eat nothing but pb&j's for lunch. Why do I find it so hard to fix something decent for my 5 children when Dad isn't here?

And I thought it was just me! My husband doesn't come home for lunch (during the school year) and every day I find it a battle to fix lunch. I hate it! I hate to admit it - but, we had hotdogs today!

If you find out why you can cook for a husband but not all those kids, let me know. It's goofy. He's perfectly capable of preparing meals on his own. And yet it's easier to cook for him than it is for the kids. When it's just me and the kids, "there's nobody to cook for." What's up with that?

I have the same problem. Dad is our domestic credibility. Without him I feel like we all might as well just eat oatmeal. ??

Of course you could all look at it a different way. Maybe you are still trying to "impress" (or turn on) your husband. It shows you still have that much needed attraction to your husband and you want him to show you his favor. I'm sure if we posed this question to each of your husbands they would tell you about ways they try to impress (turn) you (on) too.

Keep it up my good women. This is the stuff that keeps marriage alive and well.

I dislike cooking for just the kids, because it is impossible to please everyone. My 5 year olds favorite comment is "I'll have peanut butter". When my husband is around, I know the meal is enjoyed and appreciated. Knowing that the children would prefer hot dogs doesn't motivate me to prepare homemade soup. Maybe this gets better when the children are all older.
